Owners of cars are luckier because they can even get to the point faster. The route is via roads A1 and N1 or A1 and IC9. How long to go from Lisbon to Batalha? In both cases, the journey will not take more than 1 hour and 40 minutes. Unfortunately, it is currently impossible to get there by public transportation, except for the Rede Expressos carrier.

Where to Go from Batalha?

Apart from Batalha, tourists should definitely visit Fatima and Nazare. The town of Fatima, built by the Arabs and with a population of 12,000, became famous and visited after the miraculous apparition of the Virgin Mary to three children. Every year on May 13, hundreds of thousands of Catholics come to Fatima for religious events. The town is close to the historical center, where from Batalha to Fatima 20.4 km is the shortest way. You can get there by car and the same famous carrier Rede Expressos, where the journey will take no more than 40 minutes. The cheapest way is the 510 bus with a ticket price of 4 euros. It leaves once a day and passes the stops Vale de Ourém, Vale de Seta, Reguengo do Fetal.

The second town worthy of attention is Nazare, which is about 29 km from Batalha by car, the fastest way along the IC9 I N1 road. The town, located an hour from the capital of the country, will be a discovery for fans of big waves and surfers. Nazare was founded in the early 16th century. The height of the waves can be up to 30 meters high. The sights of the town are the Church of Our Lady, the Archangel Michael Fort, the lighthouse, and the chapel where the Black Madonna used to be kept. 

For tourists who travel without personal transportation, the best way to get to Nazare is by direct bus. In Lisbon, flights depart from the Sete Rios bus station, and you can get here by the city metro – Linhea Azul line, the necessary station is Jardim Zoologico. Visitors traveling from Batalha can get here by two buses – No. 510 or No. 264. Both buses depart once a day and the price for a ticket varies from €4 to €5.

In the warm season, the temperature varies from 20 to 30 degrees, but in the sun, it feels 40 degrees. Due to the lack of rain, the vegetation becomes scanty and fades, and fires happen quite often. The weather is windy enough, so it’s important to get a jacket. The most comfortable months for rest are September and the first half of October. At this time the temperature varies between 20- 25 degrees. An early spring here is cool enough, the weather becomes comfortable for rest only in May.
